Start a fire

Les Allumettes put on a great opening set for their match-up with Pony Up! and Spiral Beach at Maverick's (where it was moved from Cafe DeKcuf) on Sunday. They haven't turned into Black Sabbath or anything, but with Jordanna on guitar (and occasional vocals) and Andy Cant on drums their Pavement and Yo La Tengo-style indie rock is definitely more forceful. They finished things off with a cover of The Cure's Boys Don't Cry.

Jordanna and Natasha indie-rock action!

Andy Cant rocks the Abe Lincoln look.

Nina models the all-black look.

I thought this bounced flash picture turned out nicely; Mavericks is good for that sort of thing.

... and so on.

Supposed to be an "all together" shot but it's really another Jordanna picture.

And lastly some maraca shaking.

This show was also a great example of how an enthusiastic audience can bump things up a notch.
