The man show

What can I tell you of the mysterious Man Man? Well, they could play a game of doubles at any time (with a player to spare). Tom Waites and Captain Beefheart have both been mentioned by reviewers presumably because there's lots of gravelly singing and the sound is unusual. I suspect Waits and Beefheart fans might enjoy Man Man, but the connection is fairly specious. I'd put them in the same place as bands like Akron/Family and Sunburned Hand of the Man, with perhaps a bit of Reverend Glasseye and Cerberus Shoal thrown in. The current band lineup is Honus Honus on beduggering demonstration, Chang Wang on quesadilla special, Pow Pow on thunderous clap (didn't he also coach the Renegades at one time?), Sergei Sogay on correlated corrections and Alejandro Borg, evolutionary theorist. But as you'll see they actually do play instruments, and yell harmonically.

Anyway, let's just check these guys out. That's Honus Honus on the keys.

Alejandro Borg trumpets while Pow Pow makes silly faces.

Sergei is shocked.

Chang Wang looks a bit like early Elton John. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Klang!

Beep! (Beep?)

Honk!

Gesticulation action!

Mellotronic action!

Masculine action!

Xylophonic action!

Standing action!

Saxophonic action!

I give you ... Man Man!

There was also some faith-healing and tube-twirling in there too; unfortunately the photos turned out too dark.
  • Show reminder: Priestess plays Mavericks with Handsome Jack and Channel One. Gunsmoke plays The Aloha.
