Steel yourself

I get the impression from interviews with the members of Magneto — guitarist Rick Haworth, bassist Mario Legare and drummer Sylvain Clavette - that the members are all studio musicians who have decided to take a spin in the limelight for kicks. I've heard Haworth and Legare before, as sidemen on albums by Lhasa and, in Legare's case, Frederic Gary Comeau. Legare also performed with 1970s Quebec prog outfit Octobre.

Haworth slides along.

Legare is the only guy who gets to really run around on stage - so he does.

The whole lot, plus a refugee from the year Bluesfest had a New Orleans theme.

Steel-drivin' man Bob Taillefer joined in for a Miles Davis tribute.

He makes the odd funny face, does Bob.

Rick switched to Tele for this bit.

A pleasant enough listen, but their jazzier moments didn't keep me in their grip. I went off to see Deer Tick instead.
