A whole new thing

Off to see a debut performance at the Dominion tavern; not local all-woman rock combo The Johnnies who actually played the first show a few weeks back at Irene's (those with moderately long memories may remember the place was too full to allow entry to lollygaggers such as myself), but of new Garaga drummer Dave Faught. Dave has off course doffed his shirt for famed combos as Resin Scraper an Blackball.

Anyone, starting at the beginning with The Johnnies. There are apparently plenty of Johnnys and Johnnies in the world of rock (most prominently the Australian country-rockers featuring ace axeman Spence P. Jones), but the Ottawa formation, featuring veterans from such acts as The Secret Loves and Centretown Cripplers) actually remind me a great deal of Sudbury's The Joliettes. I'd say they should share a bill with Shanker and Romps, but they already beat me to it. They also covered Josie Cotten's Johnny Are You Queer.

As for Garaga, they've had good luck with all their drummers, but it must be said that Dave's hammering style is most suitable.

A solid evening, including a sudden flurry of Santas. I just wish I'd had the good sense to remember that i(heart)music was having its last show at Zaphod's; I could have shown up early and made it a double-header. Oh well, no doubt Ming Wu has it covered.
