Bluesfest: Michael Powers

On a whim I decided to go and check out Michael Powers on the Subway Stage. For this set he was working the blues guitar, but he's also influenced by rockabilly and Jimi Hendrix - he played a tribute set the next day. Bluesman Jimmy Reed taught him his first guitar moves and he was later part of James Cotten's band.

Powers frets!

His nattily clad band include Cliff Schmitt on bass and Barry Harrison on drums.

And, er, that's it, since I then popped back to watch Erykah Badu ... or rather, watch her band soundcheck and then hang about.
  • Show reminder: Agnostic Front, The Rookers and Life On Trial get punky at Mavericks; Faraway Neighbours get a little closer at The Rainbow - one for fans of Grizzly Bear and the like, apparently.
