Noise and anti-noise

Last night at Raw Sugar was quite electronic, with the placeMACHINE folks curating sets from Adam Saikaley (most recently seen as 50% of Silkken Laumann at Babylon), RLMDL - a.k.a. Jordan Allen of Paramedics, and Math Rosen, who's headed off to Toronto, making this his last local gig. Unless he comes to visit, which I'd guess he probably will.

Adam used an amp, speaker cone, microphone and cymbals to create some grinding, feedbacking sounds. Unfortunately, the cymbal refused to cooperate at the end by falling off the table like it was supposed to.

The music of RLMDL (that's Rolemodel if you have some vowels to spare) was far more melodic. Actually it made me think of Junior Boys and Sufjan Steven's Age of ADZ (possibly because I was listening to the latter on the way to Raw Sugar and back - I'm easily influenced). Here Jordan tweaks some sounds as Luca videos.

Math Rosen started his set off with a bit of soundtrack to a likely-to-never-be-made film called Cyberpunks before switching to some of his bread-and-butter dance tracks.

All a fun listen, though somewhat short on the jumping about of most of the shows I go to.
  • Show reminder: Thunderuncle, In Heat and four-stroke rock the Clocktower Pub; The Capitol Beat and The Thundermonks perform at Zaphod's; The Drowned Rats, Jenny Woo, and The MudPlots play the Rainbow; Slim Moore & The Mar-Kays entertain at Mavericks; Rocksnake and Gypsy Wind blow into the Elmdale House. The Train Jumpers and L. Poushinsky are at Irene's. The Town Hall Cryers (not to be confused with the Town Cryers) and Personal Helicopter drop by the Avant-Garde Bar.
