Dirty Beaches has been winning raves all around for their (or perhaps that should be his) kosmiche surf sounds. Alex Zhang Hungtai has made a couple of stops in town, but I managed to miss them all until this May 11 show at Mavericks. Also on hand were Xiu Xiu and transcontinental art-doom trio Father Murphy. What I saw of their set blended into a seamless whole of ritualistic percussion, groaning vocals and guitar squalls - just the sort of thing I like!
