Young things

One of the nicest plays to see a show in summer - assuming it's not too muggy in the evening - is Mugshots, "Ottawa's only jail bar." It's not really in a jail, of course: Ottawa's hostel long ago stopped stringing people up. But it still has the high walls, iron bars and convenient gallows trapdoor for that real behind bars feel. Before decamping for Montreal, Sylvain Lajoie ran a series of Bacon Fat nights featyring a bunch of cool bands. The first one I saw featured Boyhood, who have shown up quite a bit on the blog of late, and Fet. Nat.

First up, Caylie and Co. In this case, "and Co." is just Luke, since regular drummer Callum was, if memory serves, off doing stuff with his other band, Grime Kings. Thus Caylie handled percussive duties.

And here's Luke on bass.

... And one more of Luke.

The lineup made them sound quite a bit more post-punk than usual. They'll be hitting the U.S. in April and May. They'll also be opening for Big Dick on Feb. 16 at the Dominion.
