Surf'n'Sabbath

Criminy, I go a few years without seeing The Reverb Syndicate, then catch them again within the space of a month. They promised at their House of Targ show to play a longer set at Zaphod's, and here they were, opening for Toronto's The Calrizians. It was a show with plenty of twang.

Surf action!

Mike hits! They also had a young fellow on hand to play a bit of Theremin.

The Calrizians are a four-man combo, including an organist. No surprise to hear that their instrumental faves include Booker T. & The MGs, whose Time Is Tight they opened the show with. Mind you, they ended with surf versions of Blondie's Call Me and a lot of Black Sabbath.

The bassist took over on guitar for a run through Link Wray's Rumble.

The crowd was small, but most of them were dancing by the end of the night.
