Watch the skies

Yesterday's weather was not encouraging to show-going, but if you were travelling about by foot it wasn't nearly as bad as it looked - certainly nothing to discourage me from tromping off to Pressed to see Holy Fuck and Scattered Clouds. Both outfits feature familiar faces: Dusted is the brainchild of Holy Fuck's Brian Borcherdt, but sounds nothing like it; while Scattered Clouds is the offspring of local jazz bassist Philippe Charbonneau and is more sonically familiar to folks who know of his E-tron records associations (J'envoie, etc.). Now, on to the shadowy snaps!

Plenty of music claims to be atmospheric, but Scattered Clouds' did conjure up a certain noir-ish air.

Pierluc Clement of J'envoie was on hand to sing, play guitar and some keyboard parts, while Jamie Kronick played the drums.

On to Dusted. Although he's best known as part of Holy Fuck, Brian Borcherdt has also done a lot of solo stuff in the singer-songwriter vein. With Dusted he's teamed up with Leon Taheny (of SS Cardiacs and others) to make some fuzzy melodies. So here's the fuzzy picture to go with ...

Two acts to really keep an eye on.
