Off the shelves

I had a busy Saturday evening, including my first visit to Black Squirrel Books. BSB is a near-neighbour to the House of Targ (it's right next to Framed, Targ's upstairs neighbour), which is mighty convenient. It's a nice, fairly open space that easily accommodated the two dozen or so folks who came by to watch Aube and H. de Heutz open for Peterborough's Hello Babies (original headliner Stefan Christoff had to call it off, but will be back in March). First up, Aube, which draws its players from Asile, Occult Burial and elsewhere.

On to H. de Heutz who played a super, rather sinuous-sounding set.

Hello Babies served up as real grab-bag of stuff. They like to say serious things in funny ways, and have a loose, jazzy post-punk feel that hides a fair amount of technical skill. They usually perform as a trio (or so I'm told), but seemed to get by just fine as a duo.

They still had a couple of songs in them at 11 p.m., but I wanted to head over to Targ for some Mere Humans and Good2Go.
