None more metal

For many years, the name Metalian has been whispered in awe by folks wise to Canadian metal of the NWOBHM-worshipping variety. Last Thursday I got a chance to see the rumours are justified, and also catch some superior sets by Big Knife Little Knife and local thrashers World War 4.

Big Knife Little Knife probably would have been more in sync with Greys on the previous night. The band's members includes Weights and Measures' Kevin Jagernauth on guitar. Also on board, Lindbergh Line's Denise Williams on drums and Bellisle/Giant Sons bassist David Tkach. So, Arlington Ave meets K Records, then turns up the volume?

And now on to some eery greenish action with World War 4 ... incidentally, do non-metal bands have banners for behind the drum kit these days? I'm trying to think if I've seen one in the last 10 years.

Metalian finished the night with a long set chockablock with a couple of classic NWOBHM tunes (Breaking The Law, for example), a bit of In The Hall of The Mountain King  and a bunch of their dead on originals. Mainstay and frontman Ian Kerr has Bruce Dickinson-quality pipes and the whole band is chockablock with talent. Here's guitarist Steve rocking the headband,
